Sydney finale for 2015 GT3 Cup Challenge

Sydney finale for 2015 GT3 Cup Challenge

Thursday, 29 January 2015 02:53

Sydney Motorsport Park will be the new home to the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli season finale in 2015 following the addition of a second visit to the New South Wales venue.

The Sydney circuit will host the sixth and final round of the Porsche series along with the end-of-season Awards Night. Uniquely, the Porsche competition will conclude on the Saturday evening, with the Award Night to be held on Saturday night.

The change to the race calendar was made due to the cancellation of the Shannons Australian Motor Racing Nationals round at Mallala Motor Sport Park, originally scheduled for May.

2015 Race Schedule
Round - Location (Date)

1 - Sandown Raceway, VIC (March 27-29, 2015)

2 - Winton Motor Raceway, VIC* (June 12-14, 2015)

3 - Sydney Motorsport Park, NSW* (July 03-05, 2015)

4 - Queensland Raceway, QLD* (August 07-09, 2015)

5 - Phillip Island, VIC (September 18-20, 2015)

6 - Sydney Motorsport Park, NSW (November 13-15, 2015)

Porsche Cars Australia Motorsport Manager, Kurt Sakzewski, believes placing the Sydney Motorsport Park event as the finale will add an exciting new element to the season.

“Traditionally Phillip Island has been home of the GT3 Cup Challenge season finale, so we’re excited to mix this up and finish the season in Sydney,” said Sakzewski.

“After assessing all options for the replacement round, the Sydney Motorsport Park round of the Shannons Nationals in November provided the best alternative - a great circuit on the verge of summer - and the perfect location to celebrate the season’s end.”

The Jim Richards Endurance Trophy format wilL be used for the series’ second, third and fourth rounds at Winton Motor Raceway, Sydney Motorsport Park and Queensland Raceway, respectively.

The 2015 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Australia presented by Pirelli season will begin in nine weeks at Sandown Raceway on March 27-29, 2015.
