Trofeo Principal Jim Manolios, Ivan Capelli, V8 Super Car regular Dean Canto and Trofeo Motorsports very own Ryan Millier all stepped out in style representing Trofeo Motorsport at the 2017 Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour.

Leading driver Dean Canto was the first to tame the Lamborghini GT3 Huracan for the dawn start, and it certainly showed in his driving, moving us up to 18th within the first hour.
Canto stepped out handing the Bull’ to former Formula 1 ace Ivan Capelli who has enjoyed many a trip down under, driving for Trofeo Motorsport. This was his 3rd time on the mountain for the 12 Hour.

Safely back from his stint Ivan handed over the controls to TM founder Jim Manolios who kept the car safe out of harm’s way as the race ramped up many DNF’s as the race progressed.

Ryan Millier was next behind the wheel of the Huracan GT3 and turned in a very competitive stint as the team punched on. From the powers of our engineering staff they planned a well-structured strategy keeping our drivers fresh and sneaking us into third in class and 12th outright with the efforts from Ryan Millier double stinting in the soaring heat.

In the final scheduled pit-stop, not even a fire could extinguish Canto’s plan on hustling the Huracan around the mountain, whilst managing heat and fatigue in the hot conditions. Canto kept it clean in his final stint to bring the Trofeo Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 home after 12 hours crossing the line placing 3rd in class and 10th outright.

The drivers were backed by our superb crew headed by TM team manager James Spengler, with the support of Lamborghini Squadra Corse head engineer Giovanni Rizzo.
Rizzo, fresh from the Daytona 24 Hour, worked tirelessly without fault and commended the team for their professionalism, close relationships and keeping a cool head at times when the heat was on.

The team was further supported by Event Equipment who provided a stunning back drop to our pit facilities for fans and guests to watch the action live on the big screens, as well as accommodating our drivers with their own lounge and setting up our team hospitality suite.

All About Graphics ensured the TM brands, Pirelli, Freem Race Wear, Lamborghini Squadra Corse, and Whispering Vines at Trofeo Estate were all seen in the best possible light.

Already the 2015 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12-Hour has attracted huge overseas interest, with international teams, cars and drivers entered for this year’s event, but arguably one of the biggest names to appear in the paddock this time around, won’t be a competitor..

Fresh from the opening Formula One test of the year, Pirelli’s Motorsport Director Paul Hembery will fly into Bathurst on Friday to be at Mount Panorama circuit to take stock of the event and the progress of the Pirelli supported teams.

“Such is the importance of this event to Pirelli on a global scale, that Paul made a change to his hectic pre-season schedule to come down to Bathurst to be a part of the event and support all the work we’ve done with the Bathurst 12-Hour over the last couple of years,” Trofeo Motorsport’s Jim Manolios confirmed.

With the first F1 test concluding at Jerez today [Wednesday], Hembery will be straight on a plane from Spain to Sydney, arriving in time for practice on Friday, before returning to the UK ahead of the second round of Formula One testing at Catalunya in two weeks time.

“As one of the pre-eminent GT races in the world ahead of the start of the European, American and Australian championships, Bathurst provides valuable pre-season data for the likes of the Blancpain Series, the Pirelli World Challenge, and of course, the Australian GT Championship.

“In addition to Paul, two of Pirelli’s senior Blancpain Series [the world’s elite GT3 championship contested in Europe] technicians - Matteo Braga (who is also Pirelli’s senior World Rally Championship tyre engineer) and Giuseppe Parisi - will join Pirelli Australia’s Simon Pool throughout the event to assist Pirelli supported teams in gaining the maximum performance from their tyres.”

“With 3200 tyres, two transporters, five shipping containers, and more than 30 staff, Trofeo Motorsport are more than prepared for anything that mother nature can throw at us,” Trofeo Motorsport’s Chris Montgomery admitted.

There will be plenty of Pirelli presence in the paddock area this year, and fans are invited to come down to visit ‘Pirelli Alley’ an area that stretches from the back of the garages behind Tower 2, all the way to the Pirelli tyre compound. Inside there will be a selection of high performance road cars, GT cars, a Formula 1 simulator and a whole celebration of Pirelli’s involvement in all forms of motorsport. You can also talk to the team about their range of high-performance road tyres, and if you’re lucky, you may get the chance to grab an autograph from one or two members of the Formula 1 family [Paul Hembery or Ivan Capelli].

The 2015 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12-Hour promises to be the best on record, with a full field of cars, international factory teams taking on the best from Australia, and a new tyre from Pirelli that is set to smash the outright lap record.

“For the 2015 Bathurst 12-Hour, we’ve adopted three different compounds of tyres,” Trofeo Motorsport’s Jim Manolios confirmed. “Recently we conducted a two-day test at Phillip Island with all three compounds and the results were extremely satisfying.

“This year we will offer teams the option of both the Pirelli DS (soft) and DM (medium) compounds, in addition to the DH which smashed the lap record last year with Shane Van Gisbergen in the Tony Quinn McLaren.

“That result also reflected what we’d seen right through the 2013 Australian GT Championship presented by Pirelli, where the DH would often reset the lap record towards the end of a one-hour stint, just as Van Gisbergen had done.

“If the unpredictable Bathurst weather stays fine, Shane’s stunning 2:03.8506 will fall, no question, and if the weather is cool, then there’s every chance one of the leading teams will choose a softer compound, and that will put a real twist into the equation.

“Tyre strategy will be an important factor in the race, so teams will be keeping a close eye on ambient and track temperatures. We showed on many occasions last year that the DH tyre is capable of triple-stinting without any problems. The DM, if it’s cool could also double-stint, we proved that at Phillip Island.

“As for the DS, that might come down to a battle for position in the top ten shootout on Saturday, and at that point, we could see a whole new record established for Mount Panorama!”

As for the race result, we’re looking good for victory, with a number of leading contenders campaigning Pirelli tyres including reigning Australian GT Champions and 2013 Bathurst 12-Hour winners, Erebus Motorsport. The Melbourne Performance Centre Audi team will also provide plenty of interest at the front of the field with a number of former 12-Hour winners drafted into their Audi team, as will David Brabham in the Flying B Bentley Continental and the new Trass Family Motorsport Ferrari from New Zealand with Jono Lester and NZ V8 star John McIntyre at the wheel.

Pirelli will certainly be one of the big stories of the 2015 Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12-Hour, with a huge presence not just in the paddock (visit Pirelli Alley behind Tower 2 in the pits), but also inside the garages.

“We will bring 3200 tyres to Bathurst to support our teams across all conditions,” Trofeo Motorsport’s Chris Montgomery confirmed. “We also have Pirelli technicians flying in from Blancpain Series testing in Europe, and a full crew to service our customers.

“This will be our biggest undertaking yet on Australian shores, and something we’re more than prepared for!”
